First Light Mission
A Place of Refuge
and Fresh Starts
For most of its 25 year history, Goshen Interfaith Hospitality Network partnered with local churches to serve the homeless in the community. After seeing some significant changes, which were accelerated when COVID-19, their model of service changed, as well as their mission and vision. Furthermore, after operating out of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church for several years, they recently found a new permanent home to call our own. In the midst of all of these changes, LightBox was asked to rename and rebrand the organization in order to better communicate who they were becoming and where they are going. Goshen Interfaith Hospitality is now First Light Mission, a place of refuge and fresh starts.

Goals
For most of its history, Goshen Interfaith Hospitality Network operated out various congregations in the community, offering temporary shelter but at the cost of frequent moving and a lot of coordination. They needed more stability for the organization and for those they serve. Simultaneously, GIHN sought to expand services to a broader population, and gain more independence from the Interfaith umbrella. First Light Mission currently provides a safe, loving place for families, single parents, and single women to stay without preconditions while they work towards long term stability. Their new vision and tagline, “A place of refuge and fresh starts” captures the heart of their mission.
We contracted with LightBox in a name change and rebrand, moving from Goshen Interfaith Hospitality Network to First Light Mission. They took the time to really get to know us as an organization and worked hard to come up with a name and logo that truly speaks of who we are. They are an amazing company!

Outcomes
The changes and challenges brought on by COVID were myriad for First Light Mission. While it was not the cause, it was a catalyst. In this past year alone the organization has not only undergone the name change and rebrand, but has seen changes to their structure, staffing and are still getting settled into their new building. Along with their new mission, and new brand, the are well positioned to enter into an exciting new stage of being a place of refuge and fresh starts.
